Family engagement is critical in developing and shaping a student’s STEM Identity, or the degree to which they can see themselves as a person who can do STEM. LETS GO is committed to providing opportunities for effective family engagement in STEM, especially when in-person learning cannot take place.
On October 8th, LETS GO helped the Lakeland Community and STEAM Center kick off their Family STEAM Night Series by hosting a live experiment using household materials that families followed along to. Families learned about chromatography, the science of separating components of a mixture, and how to use the STEM skill to find the “hidden colors” in leaves that come out in the fall. LETS GO also hosted Ginny Jeppi, one of our amazing volunteer guest speakers, to talk about what it’s like to be a professional environmental scientist!
Stay tuned on our social media as we announce more fun, free family engagement events this school year.
