The U.S. Department of Education estimates that every 26 seconds, an American student drops out of high school. We know that when students and families are empowered with high quality resources to align their education to their skills and interests, they are on a pathway towards success. This school year, LETS GO Baltimore continued our series of school choice workshops, designed to help our middle school STEM Scholars and their families navigate the process of applying to their “best fit” high school in the Baltimore City Public School System (BCPSS). Workshops showcased the value of STEM-focused, Career and Technical Education (CTE), and P-TECH programs. Scholars engaged in discussions to steer them towards recognizing that the STEM skills they are learning in their afterschool programs go beyond learning code or engineering a structure. In fact, skills that they are practicing like collaboration, critical thinking, and more can be found in any profession. Scholars and their families were also given an overview of schools and their application processes, and the importance of grades and attendance towards shaping eligibility to apply to certain programs. A 2020-2021 webinar for BCPSS students can be accessed here .We are proud of our STEM Scholars, who will enter ninth grade in fall 2021 at the following high schools in Baltimore city:
